Ive always been interested in nature and animals even as a small child. Trying to interpret it honestly on canvas or paper is always a challenge. I love beautiful, majestic landscapes as well as run-down weathered barns and old rusty trucks left in fields, forgotten with time. Texture, shape, form and color all play an important part in nature. Anybody can throw paint on a canvas and call it art but to do justice to nature in a painting is an obligation to interpret it as it really is to the best of their ability. A good painting should communicate to the viewer a story or an emotion without any explanation from anyone else just the painting and the viewer and silent communication. This communication is what I try to convey in my paintings. My goal in painting is to paint nature with an impressionistic, painterly style. My goal in teaching is to try to help my students develop their own, individual style.
